Moscow Choral Synagogue was constructed in 1886 and has its own legend. This synagogue recently celebrated 100-year anniversary. It is a very impressive building, constructed by renowned Moscow architect Roman Klein. This synagogue was the only one that continued to operate throughout the Soviet years.
Not far from the synagogue is the area where Jewish quarter used to be in the 19th century. It was a very small area very close to Red Square. It was completely destroyed in the Soviet times, but your Moscow guide will tell you about its past.

In the area of Small and Big Bronnaya street there lived in late 19th early 20th century the millionaire Lazar Polakov, who was the head of the Jewish community in Moscow. He built a private Synagogue. It was the first one to appear in Moscow. There was a tunnel for the congregation to escape during pogroms. Nearby you can see the Shalom Aleichem statue and the building of the former Jewish theatre where actor Solomon Mikhoels used to play.
