Enjoy this one day private tour to Sergiev Posad and visit the most famous UNESCO-protected monastery in Russia – the Holy Trinity Lavra (Troitse Sergieva Lavra). It is a holy place where thousands of pilgrims visit to pray at the shrine of St Sergius of Radonezh – the lavra’s most sacred religious relic.
Once you are picked up from your hotel at 9:00am, you will head off to Sergiev Posad, located 46 miles (75km) from Moscow (around 2-hour drive). Upon your arrival to Sergiev Posad you will have a private excursion in the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra monastery with a visit to its main sights including the Holy Gates – an excellent example of the architectural style known as Moscow Baroque which were built between 1692 and 1699;
Dormition Cathedral which was constructed between 1559 and 1585 on the orders of Tsar Ivan the Terrible to resemble the Dormition Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin;Trinity Cathedral,a masterpiece of Russian architecture and the lavra’s most ancient and important cathedral;Refectory Church of St Sergius with one of the most beautiful carved iconostasis in Russia; Godunov Burial Vault, the final resting place of Tsar Boris Godunov and his family.
After the tour you will have free time in the city to walk to the local market and buy souvenirs. Your guide will show you a good restaurant in the town where you can have lunch (not included).
At 2p.m., you will depart back to Moscow. The expected time of arrival in Moscow is 4p.m.
