The embankment in the old part of Yaroslavl is considered to be the most picturesque among other cities along the Volga river.

It’s a park with fountains situated in the historical part of Yaroslavl. Here you will see the Monument to the 1000th anniversary of foundation of Yaroslavl, Holy Trinity monument, stone on the place where Yaroslavl was founded.

The Assumption Cathedral was founded in 1215 and was the first stone church in Yaroslavl. The cathedral was destroyed in 1937, but on the occasion of the celebration of 1000th anniversary of the city it was restored on its original place.

The church was built in 1647 – 1650 and is one of the best-preserved and most beautiful monuments of Yaroslavl. The most striking thing about the church are interior paintings made by famous Kostroma masters which do not have equals in beauty, richness and brightness of colors.

The Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery was founded in 1216 and is considered to be the oldest structure of Yaroslavl. The monastery was used as the acropolis, center of defense and also housed the treasury. Now the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery is a museum.

The Rostov Kremlin is located in the very centre of the city. It was built between 1670 and 1683 on the orders of Metropolitan Iona Sysoevich of Rostov and Yaroslavl to serve as a new residence for himself. In the late 18th century, the seat of the eparchy moved to Yaroslavl. A group of merchants established a Museum of Church Antiquities on the territory of the Rostov kremlin. Today it is called the Rostov Kremlin State Museum Reserve. Inside the kremlin is separated into three parts: Cathedral Square, the central part and the Metropolitan’s Gardens.
