Opened in 1935 with one 11-kilometre (6.8 mi) line and 13 stations, it was the first underground railway system in the Soviet Union. As of 2019, the Moscow Metro, excluding the Moscow Central Circle and Moscow Monorail, has 232 stations (263 with Moscow Central Circle) and its route length is 397.3 km (246.9 mi),[1] making it the fifth longest in the world. The system is mostly underground, with the deepest section 74 metres (243 ft) underground at the Park Pobedy station, one of the world’s deepest underground stations. It is the busiest metro system in Europe, and is considered a tourist attraction in itself.

Stop At: Ploshhad Revolyutsii Metro Station, Bogoyavlenskiy Ln. Nikolskaya St., Moscow 109012 Russia
Named after the Revolution Square above, the Ploshchad Revolyutsii metro station is eerie but beautiful, featuring red and yellow marble arches with pairing bronze statues representing the people of the Soviet Union, including soldiers, farmers, factory workers, athletes, pilots and children. It is to celebrate the good works on society development of the Soviet Union.

Stop At: Mayakovskaya Metro Station, Triumfalnaya Sq., Moscow 125047 Russia
This station is an experiment: it was built deep underground, using aeronautical engineering techniques. This station is a masterpiece: it won a Grand Prix at the World’s Fair in New York. This station is a story within itself: it used to serve as a bomb shelter and a soapbox for Joseph Stalin.

Stop At: Kiyevskaya Metro Station, Kiyevskogo Vokzala sq., 1, Moscow 121059 Russia
40 designs were submitted for the Kievskaya station; a design by a Kiev group headed by Professor Yevgeny Katonin was selected. The construction began 53 metres under the ground. The interior design is a tribute to the 300th anniversary of the reunification of Russia and Ukraine. The back wall is adorned with stucco floral patterns with a line from the Soviet anthem running along them. The station opened in 1954.

This is one of the most ceremonial stations in the Moscow Metro. It is best known for its 32 stained-glass panels, which were all designed by the famous Soviet artist Pavel Korin.

The arches are faced with flared white marble and are topped with ceramic bas-relief frieze made of floral elements. In the centre are medallion bas-reliefs (work of G.Motovilov) featuring the different aspects in the development of agriculture in the Soviet Union. The station walls are laid with dark red Ural marble and chessboard floor pattern is made of grey and black granite. The ceiling vault is decorated with casts, and lighting comes from several cylindrical chandeliers.

Crystal lamps in bronze frames attached to the center of the room give the central hall a festive appearance. The vault of the central hall is decorated with caissons and majolica bas-reliefs by Natyla Danko on the theme of theatre arts of the USSR, manufactured by Leningrad Porcelain Factory.

The station was opened on November 20, 1943. The station honors the Soviet fighting men with its heavy ornamentation. The architects, I. Taranov and N. Bykova, won a USSR State Prize for their design.

Belorusskaya station is some 42 metres under the ground. The main decoration theme is the culture and economy of the Byelorussian people. The station was opened for passengers in 1952. The architects received the Stalin Prize.
